Bet She'an is the place where King Saul and his 3 sons died in a battle. In the Bible you can read this story in the last chapter of 1 Samuel. You can read David's lament (poem of sadness) in 2 Samuel 1.
What you see in the foreground of this picture of the clouds and sun is a Roman city built a 1000 years later. This excavation has wonderful examples of Roman baths, theater, streets, homes and shops many of which have beautiful mosaic floors.
