Heading home

Picture
This morning we head to the airport to head home. We have had a wonderful and meaningful time. While we are not looking forward to the long flight home. We are looking forward to being home. Thank you for following this blog of our trip to Israel!  Pastor Dave

Yad Vashem, a place where the names "will be remembered and never cut off." Isaiah 56:5

Picture
We visited the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem. The column represents the smoke stacks of the ovens. It was very moving to all.

Via Dolorosa

Picture
We had a free afternoon and several of us walked the traditional route Jesus walked with his cross. There are 9 stations ending at where Jesus was crucified.

Jerusalem Contrasts

Picture
This is the Jaffa Gate of the old city of Jerusalem. This vendor has some really good bread. Against the wall are two Israel soldiers. Throughout the city soldiers are on guard. We felt very safe.

The Wailing Wall

Picture
Denvy in front of the wailing wall. There were many Jewish men in fervent prayer for Jerusalem.
Picture
Bob gazing at all of the activity.
Picture
At the Wailing Wall men are separated from women by this wall. But the women stand on stools and look over at the men. Here ,apparently, Kay is way more interested in what the men are doing than what the women are doing.

Jerusalem

Picture
Behind Kathy is the old City of David.
Picture
The Temple steps.
Picture
This is a recently excavated street next to the temple mount. This was where the money changer were working. You would come and trade your money for Temple money, then buy a sacrificial animal, take a ritual bath and walk up to the Temple to sacrifice for your sins. It is likely this is the place Jesus turns over the tables and tells them they have made his father's house a den of thieves.

Jerusalem

Picture
In the foreground is the Kindron Valley. On the hill are tombs. These tombs are right across from the Temple Mount. Jesus calls the religious leaders "white washed tombs". My guess is he was looking at these tombs at the time.
Picture
This is the Pool of Siloam. There is a story in John 9 where Jesus sends a young man who is blind to this pool to be healed after he put mud in his eyes. When we washes he is healed and raises quite a commotion.
Picture
Karen ended the day with a shoe shine.

The Jordan River and Jericho

Picture
People Baptizing in the Jordan River
Picture
Kay getting into the Jordan. It was muddy here. This is the traditional but not proven site of Jesus Baptism. The most we can say for sure is that John the Baptist baptized in this area.
Picture
Nancy at the fountain at Jericho. Jericho is the lowest and oldest city in the world. When the group got to the top of the ruins Marvin played "Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho" on his trumpet. No walls came down however.
